Piano Trio, 3rd Movement

from Vanguard Recitals by Matthew Neil Andrews

/

about

The third movement attempts to reconcile the "dissonant" and "consonant" elements, centered around the tone row Bb-A-C-B-Gb-F-E-G-Ab-Eb-C#-D, which takes the first movement's B-A-C-H motif as a point of departure. The row's primary functions are formal and melodic, laying out a rondo-like journey through several key centers and providing melodic material for the opening and central sections.
