The second movement introduces the work's contrasting "consonant" element, centered around simple scalar/arpeggiated melodies and colorful major and minor triads that don't always make sense together.

The B-A-C-H motif makes a hidden appearance: the first movement having been centered more or less around Bb, the three sections of this movement through A minor, C minor, and B minor.
